Flattened ring-wing (coleopter) in „delta” arrangement - experimental aircraft
![]() |
|
The
presented airplane arrangement combines features of an oblate coleopter
with a
“delta” wing. The oblate coleopter, together with
the built-in propellers,
enables the reduction of induced resistance. The
“delta” type plane provides
for arrangement integration. A characteristic feature of this
arrangement lies
in the fact that all the elements of the airframe, every fragment of
its surface,
participate in generating aerodynamic lift. The integrity of the
arrangement
and the large volume of the lower plane space enables a favorable
placement of
the crew, engine and all the remaining equipment. In the presented
example an
arrangement has been dimensioned to enable the creation of an
experimental,
one-person “microplane”. The
purpose of
executing this design is to study an extremely atypical aerodynamic
arrangement
in practice. Later in
the description
an unconventional control system has been presented — one
that takes advantage
of the characteristics of the arrangement to the largest extent
possible.

The
controls are comprised of four moving segments placed on arched
fragments
connecting the lower and upper plane, and a “trimmer” constituting a fragment of the rear part of the upper plane’s straight section. Displacement of the “trimmer” provides airplane balancing in the set flight conditions. The correlated deflection of individual moving segments provides control around all the spatial axes. The placement of these segments near the propeller streams enhances maneuvering dynamics. In the demonstrated example deflecting the “lower right” and “upper left” segments will cause the airplane to bank to the left. |

- The "Delta" system, in the proposed version,
is exceptionally predestined for use in "screenplane". This is due to the large size of the aerodynamic chord
of the lower wing - it significantly improves the aerodynamic properties when
approaching the ground (land surface or water surface). -What is very important, the proposed aerodynamic system is effective both as a "screenplane" and as a classic aircraft - it allows to move quickly at higher altitudes. The presented concept has been submitted to the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland (Application no. Wp.31493 dated March 21, 2023) |
